The David and Sarah Rabin Lecture Series
The Rabin lectures on the Holocaust are one of the high points of the Jewish Studies annual calendar. They began in 1992 with a gift from Al and Bea Rabin to honor the memory of Al’s parents, David and Sarah Rabin. In 2012, we hosted the 20th Rabin lecture. Highlights in the series have included appearances byoutstanding Holocaust historians Omer Bartov, Sid Bolkosky, Christopher Browning, Dav id Cesarani, Alon Confino, Dalia Ofer, and Antony Polansky, Holocaust literature scholars Alvin Rosenfeld and Susan Rubin Suleiman, Holocaust graphic artist, Art Spiegelman, and Holocaust filmmaker Steven Moskovic with survivor Alex Moskovic.
Coming as it does at the end of the academic year, the Rabin lecture is also the occasion for the presentation of the annual Jewish Studies Student Achievement Awards.
This year, the Rabin Lecture on the Holocaust, scheduled April 18,2013, will be given by historian Barbara Epstein, from UC-Santa Cruz, on “Jewish Responses to the Nazis in Minsk, Belarus.”
